Economic and social development is closely linked to the existence of a solid, dynamic, and competitive business sector. Business creation constitutes the foundation of sustainable economic growth, as it generates employment, stimulates innovation, and strengthens the resilience of productive systems. Encouraging entrepreneurial vocations requires appropriate regulatory frameworks and incentives, as well as educational and cultural conditions that foster initiative, creativity, and responsible risk-taking. In the twenty-first century, support for entrepreneurship has become a global paradigm, reflected in numerous public and private initiatives aimed at the creation, acceleration, financing, and consolidation of start-ups and innovation-driven spin-offs. Increasing attention is also being given to female entrepreneurship, recognising its contribution to economic growth, social cohesion, and inclusive development.
Within this framework, the Mediterranean Food Entrepreneurship Week, held at CIHEAM Zaragoza, aims to develop a new generation of entrepreneurs through a dynamic and participatory programme with the involvement of several partner institutions. The course combines theoretical sessions with practical workshops, ideation activities, mentoring and pitch sessions, as well as visits to companies, incubators and innovative firms. The international and interactive nature of the programme promotes the exchange of experiences and perspectives, while equipping participants with tools to scale and consolidate micro-enterprises and start-ups, engage youth and women in the Global South, and address investment priorities relevant to Mediterranean agrifood systems.
